Dr Mo Ibrahim presented the 11th Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture on 17 August.
The venue for the event was the University of South Africa, which celebrated its 140th birthday in 2013.
Dr Ibrahim is the Founder and Chair of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, which he established in 2006 to support good governance and exceptional leadership on the African continent.
The theme for 2013’s lecture was “Building social cohesion” – a call for all South Africans to work towards a united, cohesive, democratic and national society. Dr Ibrahim’s address focused on the need for social cohesion not only in South Africa, but also between the 54 nations that make up the African continent.
